About the NGO:
“Apne Aap Women’s Collective” (AAWC) is an NGO that was set up in 1998 and works with women in brothel based prostitution and their children, in Falkland Road, which is one of Mumbai’s main red-light districts known as Kamathipura.

The main objectives of AAWC are to provide support and resources to women in prostitution, and also to prevent second generation prostitution through education and vocational training.

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of women, children and daughters to prevent trafficking of second generation from prostitution with the commitment of dignity, warmth and acceptance as what they are, including the circumstances of their means of survival and needs.

Our vision is to provide brothel based prostitutes, their daughters, children and other marginalized girls in the red light area with the tools and resources to make choices for a better quality of life.

AAWC provides various services and organizes and conducts the programs for women, adolescent girls and children under different projects called UMEED for women in prostitution, UDAAN for marginalized girls between the age group of 6-21 years and UMANG for children between the age group of 2.5-5 years.
